When and how did you start riding FMX?

My FMX journey began in 2013 when Luewellyn van Rensburg invited me to ride at The Institute FMX. At the time, I was struggling to perfect tricks at Chestnut Hill MX track, and he saw my determination to improve. That opportunity changed everything for me, it was my first real exposure to a proper FMX setup, and from that moment on, I was hooked. Training at The Institute FMX allowed me to refine my skills, learn from experienced riders, and take my freestyle riding to the next level.

Who inspired you to start riding FMX?

Growing up, I was completely hooked on X Games, MotoXXX, Crusty Demons, On the Pipe, and Nitro Circus. Watching the legends of FMX throw down insane tricks inspired me to pursue this sport.

When I first started riding FMX, Luewellyn van Rensburg greatly pushed me to improve. He challenged me to step up my game, refine my skills, and constantly push my limits. As I progressed, I found motivation and inspiration from both local and international riders, learning from their techniques while setting personal goals to keep evolving as a freestyle motocross athlete.

Are there any riders you particularly admire?

Definitely! There are a few riders whose style, progression, and impact on FMX have really inspired me:

  • Adam Jones – His technical precision and smooth execution make him one of the most stylish riders in the game.
  • Axell Hodges – A natural freerider with an effortless flow, his creativity on the bike is next level.
  • Clinton Moore – One of the most progressive riders out there, constantly pushing the boundaries of what’s possible in FMX.
  • Jackson Strong – An absolute beast when it comes to big tricks and innovation, always sending it with no fear.

What are some of your biggest achievements in FMX?

Throughout my FMX journey, I’ve had the opportunity to compete and progress at some incredible events. Some of my biggest achievements so far include:

  • 3rd place in Best Trick (Upright) at King of the Whip – Competing in one of the biggest FMX events in South Africa and securing a podium finish was a huge milestone for me.
  • 1st place at The Institute FMX Development Series (Round 3) – A proud moment, proving all the hard work and training paid off.
  • 2nd place at The Institute FMX Development Series (Round 1) – A great start to the series, pushing me to refine my skills and keep improving.

Where is your favorite place to ride?

My favorite place to ride is without a doubt the Jungle Rush FMX Compound. It’s the perfect training ground with world-class ramps, a great setup, and an atmosphere that pushes me to improve every session. The energy at the compound is always incredible, with top riders coming through to train and progress together. Whether it’s dialing in new tricks or just enjoying a solid day of riding, Jungle Rush FMX is where I feel most at home on my bike.

What other sports or hobbies do you enjoy?

When I’m not on the bike, I love anything that gets the adrenaline pumping. Some of my favorite activities include:

  • Wakeboarding – A great way to work on balance and body control while having fun on the water.
  • Jet Skiing – Nothing beats the speed and thrill of carving through the waves.
  • Cliff Jumping – The rush of free-falling before hitting the water is pure adrenaline!
